The Los Angeles diocese sent California's most notorious organized crime and child-rape promoter, Cardinal Roger Mahony, to the orgy installemnt at Westminster.

Birds of a feather...........

Everyone knows the antenna is under the hat. How else can they communicate with god? We know prayer doesn't work.

I was looking for just that kind of hat for my avatar.

I mean really. Do they really think Jesus wants them to wear that hat? Really?

If one of my friends died for my sins (even if I didn't ask him to), I'd certainly wear his favorite type of hat. You know, like a yankee's baseball cap, or maybe even one of those 10-gallon cowboy hats. But one of those pointy gilded things with pictures of angels and saints painted on it. No thanks. Enough people think I'm crazy even without the hat.

It may be a shallow reason for losing faith, but the wearing of silly hats hit me one day. Why would God want people to wear silly hats and strange clothing in general? Why would he care?

From there I started to look at religion in a whole different way. If the silly hat thing was made up nonsense, maybe the whole thing was made up nonsense.

I`d hazard a guess ,that the shape of that hat would make the slide up gods arse a little easier,we all know what the clergy think of condoms and lube.

On the plus side, the big hat makes them more prone to being struck by lightening when stood on the balcony giving a speech in a thunderstorm.... but thats the only slight plus side i can see to such a ridiculous piece of head wear. Would have even greater, comical effect if the Pope was to say "If God was to smite me now", well it would be comical until the religious fundies start using it as evidence God exists and that it was the Popes punishment for being a Nazi and that itt was the Devils doing that he was made Pope in the first place.

Frankus, I am with you. If I was Omni - this, that and the other thing, I would not hang with dudes wearing a phallus on their head.

Oh, ...wait... thats the NEW guy... never mind.

"Judge not...?" Who me? I'm not the one wearing easy slide headgear, and satin panties, I'll wager.

Perhaps we should run a competition to find the most ridiculous garb for a religious leader of whatever faith. The Abrahamic lot would seem to have a head start.

You should be careful when ridiculing this man's hat. He could easily curse you and call bears out of the woods to maul you for mockery. It has happened before and is condoned by god. Well, it was kids making fun of a bald guy, but the idea is the same.

rod-the-farmer's Avatar Comment 17 by rod-the-farmer

I heard from a reliable source that the hat is only gold plating on top of aluminum foil. Thus there is no need for an antenna under the external item, it acts as an antenna itself. Note that the wearer is usually only seen wearing it outdoors. The signal is not sufficient indoors for good reception.

Side observation - while the RC's and Greek Orthodox went with hats, the Morons Mormons went the other way, and chose special underwear as a symbol of .....something.

Given the particularly strange beliefs of the mormons, might the special underwear be why-fronts?

When instructing on heart anatomy T.H.Huxley would point to the mitral valve,"so called", he said, "from a supposed resemblance to a bishop's mitre. You know the thing I mean - a sort of cross between a fool's cap and a crown." And since no student could remember which side of the heart the valve was situated, he introduced his mnemonic aid, "a bishop's never in the right." ---source -- "Huxley, From devil's disciple to evolutions high priest" by Adrian Desmond, a must read if you're interested in the history of science & evolution.

Yup, took a great deal of courage to come forward after being accused. Let's not forget bravery shown during years negotiating to reduce their financial and legal liabilities, all the while trying to hide the identities of the abusers.

Yup, he is dick head, and that's only partly due to the shame of his hat.

Just to place myself in the Catholic mindset for a moment, though, if leaving the church is a great evil, wouldn't discrediting the church by evil acts, by the suppression of justice, and by turning a blind eye to the corruption spreading through the body of Christ be even greater sins, since they will cause multitudes to turn away from the Church? Wouldn't that make Murphy-O'Connor and Nichols perpetrators of even greater crimes against the faith than Richard Dawkins?

That is the single, most brilliant rebuttal, ever.

If it wasn't for the preposterous pomposity, hypocricy and disingenuousness, the hats and posh frocks would be hilarious.

These men should be charged as accessaries after the fact.

Do they imagine that god doesn't notice these crimes; or is god a voyeur perhaps, so they rape children to curry favour.

The cruelty inflicted on children by their fellow believers should make these men hang their heads in shame. Instead, they lash out at and slander anyone who doesn't share their infantile fantasies, in an effort to distract attention from the criminals in their midst.

Sickening!
