Fantastic to see, well done Richard. Over two and a half times the sales of #2.

Only slightly marred by their use of the word "strident" again...argh!

And, oh dear, there's that word 'strident' again in the small print! But congrats RD - well done.
@RD - If I make a special trip from Istanbul to Manchester, can I be certain to get my copy signed?

The days of religions grip on society are fading into the past if the popularity of books like Richards are anything to go by.
Finest Kind Richard.

Oh dear, indeed, I hadn't even noticed that 'strident'. It might as well be my middle name, it is repeated with such mindless and unthinking regularity.

Number 1! That's good news.
In Ireland the biggest book shop in the city, Easons in O'Connell St have the book down in the basement on a shelf with a lot of other books instead of on the ground floor where popular new releases usually go. None of the other bookshops I tried gave it any prominence or endcap display either. But yet for his book launch in the RDS, Dublin, the Irish Times went through all 700 tickets within a couple of days. It's a complete sell out.

Oh well, at least they didn't add a "shrill" into the bargain.

Congrats Richard.

Congratulations indeed, considering some hot competition from the much-loved Vera Lynn!

I recently finished The Ancestor's Tale (wow!) and put A Devil's Chaplain on temporary hiatus when I received my pre-order copy of GSOE...

I placed my order on August 1, 2009 - and now Amazon.com says it will ship on Sept 28 -- is this the same experience everyone else is having?

How can this book be #1 on the list if Amazon hasn't shipped it yet?

Straight in at number 1. Hope that means more in book sales than it does the pop music charts. I'm enjoying the book so far. Waterstones had at no. 13 yesterday though.

This book is presently #65 on Amazon USA, and , it's still in pre-publication sales. That bodes well, I think.

What frightens me is that Glenn Beck has two books in Amazon's top 14. Holy crap!

Thinking of Norman Borlaug a lot today. What a guy!

Great result for a great book....well done to you Sir.

Amazon must just be out of stock....my pre-order came a week ago last thursday....and I got a 1p credit to my account because of the high sales figures, that was £2.00 off advertised pre-order purchase in total.
