The Atheist bus campaign has kicked off in NZ - Comments

Chris Roberts's Avatar Comment 1 by Chris Roberts

This is interesting as a recent study has shown that peoples’ own personal beliefs tend to align very well with what they think God thinks.

How true.
Interestingly, I was watching an old Jerry Springer episode (yeah, I know) at my brother-in-law's last weekend and this stupid bloke said it was OK to beat his wife because god made him bigger than women so they should be put in their place.
We both just burst out laughing but it's not funny - these stupid Americans are poisoning humanity generation after generation.

Of course there’s no reason to think that God exists in anything more than a person’s imagination.

How true.
I wish NZ the best of luck with this campaign.

Since 2 mutually exclusive positions cannot both be true you can logically prove, using any bible, that the xtian god does not exist. The xtian god is suppose to be good yet the Old testament shows that he is sadistic and evil. He is suppose to be all powerful yet the bible shows that he is not. He is suppose to be all knowing yet once again the bible shows examples of this not being true. He is suppose to be unchanging yet the god of the old testament is different from the one in the new testament. It is not logically possible for the xtian god to be real. It takes no faith or belief to state this. It just takes knowledge of the bible and a logical mind.

"These stupid people ....."

You don't have to be American to be stupid, you just need to be indoctrinated.

The sign doesn't specify the Christian God, it just says 'God'. I suspect, here in New Zealand, that Christians are actually a minority among those who believe in some sort of God.

Actually, Christians are the majority among the religious here in NZ. Close to half of all Kiwis identify themselves as Christian according to the 2006 census results, and roughly two thirds of all Kiwis identify themselves as belonging to a religion of some sort.

Data released by Statistics New Zealand from the 2006 Census shows nearly 270,000 more New Zealand residents professed No Religion in answer to the question on Religious adherence. This takes the No Religion percentage to 32.2%, or 1.3 million New Zealanders. By contrast the number of responses professing some variant of Christianity dropped to 52.9% (2.1 million), down from 57.3% in 2001. Some of these include double counting of those with more than one religion

I like to think we don't really need this in New Zealand. At least, not in the main centres where these busses will run.

Of course, then I remember that we have Destiny Church, Family First and Exclusive Brethren...

A good majority of that 50 % are like the english 'CofE' members.. who havent been to a church outside weddings in their adult lives and dont believe a bean of it. Its still an unthinking default response but it means nothing.

If you want to know how many christians there are look at the churches. Here in Auckland, if it wasnt for The Korean and Islander churches the whole shebang would be close to closing down. I even suspect from anecdotal experience that the spiritualist churches may be more popular among europeans here than christianity is.

About 38% of NZers in the Census in 2006 say they have no religion.

Irreligion by country here:

Keep up the good work.

I recently attended an atheist friend's funeral wearing my "A" badge.
GOOD RESULT: only one person in the car "couldn't say I'm an atheist"
BAD RESULT; his family who knew of his atheism, still gave him a religious service.

Keep the adverts going so that this happens less often (the priest didn't even acknowledge the guy's atheism - a sickening example of the bigotry we're up against)
