Just think, if I said Bob Marshall's opinion was retarded, Sarah Palin would be more likely to criticize me than Bob Marshall.

So what he's saying is, I have to bring the first little parasite to term (though he doesn't seem to have an opinion on what I do with it after it's born), but after that, I can abort as many as I please?

Also, it's very kind of the Delegate to remind us that God's love is all about punishment: the kids get punished for their mothers' indiscretions, and the kids' disabilities are punishments for their parents. Hells yeah, bitches!

Wait, so I have to be handicapped for life because my unborn sister was aborted? Yep. But, that hardly seems fair, does it? Well, your mother needs to be punished and a message needs to be sent. And that message is what exactly, don't abort or I'll handicap innocent children while they're still in the womb? --Do you want to loose both legs?

No, I think I'll just become an atheist.

Personally, i'm disappointed. I just found the site not long ago and started to post on topics that Richard posted on Twitter. I hope that more people become involved and realize their religious beliefs seriously harm a supposedly "free" country. Like I've said before, i hope that i see the day when reason rules and religious dogma is at least mostly extinguished. (I really do need to stop saying that, i feel excitement at the thought and i apologize)

Tyler Durden's Avatar Comment 22 by Tyler Durden

"The number of children who are born subsequent to a first abortion with handicaps has increased dramatically. Why? Because when you abort the first born of any, nature takes its vengence on the subsequent children. In the Old Testament, the first born of every being, animal and man, was dedicated to the Lord (Exodus 13). There's a special punishment, Christians would suggest." - Republican Bob Marshall, Virginia State Delegate Legislature.

Nature takes its vengence? But he's quoting scripture... so which is it, dirtbag?

HOW do people like this end up in a position to make important decisions?

Because the people who voted him into office

1) don't care what retarded things he does as long he's for business law & order and against the Mooslems, the Jews, the atheists, the commies, the socialists, the homosexuals, the nigras, the immigrants, the worthless poor (especially if they're nigras or dirty Messcans).

2) they like it that this guy says this stuff, because they think the same--and worse. However dumb he sounds, I promise there are functional voters south of the Mason-Dixon who make him look like a CalTech grad.

Ergo, asking this:
In the future, will Americans watch these videos and read about this time with disbelief that it could have been this way?

is futile. See above.

You have to think of America as a place where religion and business have gotten in bed together. They're not much alike, but they have something in common: They have the exact same view of what's the best way to line their own pockets. It involves making as many people as poor, ignorant and desperate as possible.

What bugs me about this is that I have yet to meet a pro-lifer who has adopted or is a foster parent for any child in need of a home. I'm disabled. My mother miscarried before she had me. Does that mean she did something wrong? It just illustrates the point that as soon as you allow yourself to make a tiny leap of preposterous reasoning, anything becomes possible. Your brain gets more flexible when it comes to irrationality.

Stephen of Wimbledon's Avatar Comment 27 by Stephen of Wimbledon

As the clearly intelligent, well read, and well presented Ms. Harris-Lacewell quite rightly points out; Maddow and his Republican comrades in the Commonwealth of Virginia are not good bible scholars, and not only because they have quote-mined the Bible (i.e. taking dedication of the first-born out of context) – see:

Deuteronomy 24:16 - “Fathers shall not be put to death for their sons, nor sons be put to death for the fathers: every one shall be put to death for his own sins.”

Ezekiel 18 - “The sins of the fathers are not visited upon the children.”, and it also says that the sins of the children are not visited upon the parents and, therefore, that every person stands before god accountable for his own sin.

Not to ignore the logical arguments:
- Why are first borns just as likely to be disabled?
- Why are countries that use abortion far more heavily than the U.S. (e.g. Russia) not populated by huge numbers of disabled?
- Are Virgina Republicans arguing for the ritual slaughter of first-borns?

The god of the Bible clearly smites children on a regular basis – and many times because their fathers did not do as they were told. This is the Judeo-Christian-Muslim god being a malevolent, capricious, infanticidal, bully (I’ve seen that before somewhere…). No change there then.

But a fictional god going around being a nasty piece of work is one thing. It’s quite another matter when real-life politicians use the bible to mislead poorly educated and ignorant citizens in order to prop up an argument for their nasty, small-minded, vicious, ugly little prejudices.

Has the U.S. given up trying to be a leading moral light, and exemplar of educated discourse in the modern World? It’s certainly starting to look that way.

if he's so busy punishing sinful and rewarding pious then presumibly they must all believe he's got government all sewn up

does anyon know a good reason why they don't fuck off£
