Here we go again.
This lady seems scared that her belief is under attack and is just coming out with all the old arguments about atheism as a gut reaction.

Atheists are not deluded as they are using reason and logic to look at the evidence and come to conclusions. If that conclusion is that there is no god then that is it. Sorry for all those religions out there but if you have some evidence or proof of your god then that will be examined and if it was found to be valid then there would be a reason to investigate further.

No. On the evidence, religion really does exist!

Utter crap

"he referred to the Pope as a Nazi"

Actually, he was referring to the pope during the NAzi period who was cannonised, and couldn't remember his name. Not the present pope.

It's as if there is a single article out there that the faithests latch onto, add a bit a local colour, excrete like turds from their backside, polish them up and present them like they are diamonds.

I'd love to see some new arguments that have not already been refuted ad infinitum, ad nauseum.

"This was even after (or perhaps because) he referred to the Pope as a Nazi, which managed to combine defamation of the pontiff with implicit Holocaust denial."

How is this holocaust denial? The Holocaust is the Really Bad Thing(tm) that the Nazis did, the thing that makes being called a Nazi so offensive. It implies the holocaust *did* happen if anything. I mean, lots of regimes have waged wars and killed their own citizens, but this is the special thing that makes Nazis the embodiment of evil.

I'm sorry to rant, but...that didn't even make sense.

was similarly fawned over by the Australian media, which uncritically lapped up everything he said.

This is the first I'm hearing about it.

If Dawkins criticized political parties, or non-denominational ideological groups, or just about anything except religion, in the language he uses to criticize religion, the press would marvel at what a polite, reasonable critic he was. He would still have his detractors, sure, but he would not be branded as "intolerant." He would not be characterized as a bigot. It's because he has unpopular opinions about religion and its enforcers that stamping Dawkins with the Bigot brand is everyone's favorite sport. Philips seems to think she's incredibly brave to speak out against the Big Bad New Atheist, but really she's just another whining voice in a crowd of offended sensibilities.

a strong feeling has developed in less credulous quarters that he has gone too far.

*snort* Less credulous, indeed. There goes my Irony Meter again.

What complete and utter tripe. I wouldn't mind if people could come up with some valid criticism of Dawkins and us atheists in general I really wouldn't, but why is it these people can't do that? I've been looking for good, strong arguments against atheism for a very long time, yet all that's on offer is the same old bullshit. It's infuriating in it's predictability. Lies, misunderstandings, misrepresentation and poor research and scholarship seem to be the order of the day. I've never read any of these type of articles and thought, "ooh you've got a point". Never. And it's not for the want of trying either. It seems they just don't have a point beyond the comfort religious belief might bring to some who are afraid of death and even that doesn't contribute one jot to the validity of their claims.

EDIT: Spelling.

Scientism? SCIENTISM? I swear, if one more jackass attaches an ism...

By attaching an ism to science she's trying to put it on equal footing with all other ideologies - no more valid than say conservatism or libralism or any of the millions of things that jackasses attach ism to. Science, however, does stand on its own because science alone (OK, yes, and math too if you count math out for "mathism") deals with evidence. With proof. With tangible reality, that, despite how hard some of us try not to be, we're all a part of.
