Pope's preacher compares abuse row to anti-Semitism - Comments

AshtonBlack's Avatar Comment 1 by AshtonBlack

So critique of an institution, in a peaceful but vociferous manner is now regarded as violent?

And as for comparing it to "shameful aspects of anti-Semitism." I assume he means the holocaust. In which case, erm... huh?

Sounds convincing to me - the guys in the Vatican would know something about anti-Semitism, wouldn't they?

Oh dear Marx. The Vatican is either getting really, really desperate or they are very cold and calculating in what they do. But I don't think the charge of antisemitism will stick. Tariq Rahmadan and his allies have already tried this 'islamophobia is like antisemitism' spiel, and it is old hat now. The ideological buildings are beginning to shake for real.

I'd like to suggest a new principle that applies to religious faith. It is equivalent to the physical principle called Boyle's Law - the more you compress something, the hotter it gets.

The more pressure a religious group is subjected to, the more fevered and emotional will be its response. The child abuse scandal is a growing pressure on the Catholic Church. We should expect ever more bizarre defenses of its current position and its history. Comments like those reported in this article should be no surprise. They are a sign of panic and desperation.

In related news,

A hotline set up by the Catholic Church in Germany to counsel victims of sexual abuse was overrun on its first day, with almost 4,500 calls.

The BBC's David Willey, in Rome, says the comments show the Church is continuing to defend itself rigorously and outspokenly against accusations of having systematically covered up cases of sexual abuse by priests in recent decades.

RECENT DECADES? I know!!! That is at least the last twenty years, TWENTY years. Time to call in UN troops and Interpol and arrest the bunch, cart them off to the Hague.

Have any of you here, tried to talk politely to a catholic about this corruption in their organisation ? All I get is evasions and attacks.

In his sermon, he quoted a Jewish friend as saying the accusations reminded him of the "more shameful aspects of anti-Semitism".
So does that mean this guy believes there to be less shameful (or shameless) aspects of anti-Semitism?

What a tool.

"Recent decades" my ass! This criminal cartel has been abusing people since it began - try *200* decades!

As for trying to bring this up with catlick friends, I get the silent treatment. It's quite bizarre - they simply can't process the enormity of this thing and refuse to deal with it.

And where was this guy when they were casting for Darth Vader or Sauron?

Nunbeliever's Avatar Comment 18 by Nunbeliever

Well, that was an unusually stupid and ironic comment. Perhaps if this moron would know his history he would realize that the catholic church is one of the biggest anti-semitic institutions we have ever seen. One can easily argue that without the RCC there would not even exist a thing called anti-semitism.

On the other hand, we should not expect too much of a catholic preacher. I mean, a person who thinks (and cherish the fact that) he is literally eating the body of christ on special occasions clearly can't be expected to form a logical argument.

Disgusting! Next they'll be blaming us atheists for their child abuse. Ouch - I think they already did...

Criticizing a church for raping and abusing children, and then covering it up, then not admitting what they did, not helping the authorities, covering up some more, abusing some more, not apologizing properly & blaming others is not the same as the murder of millions. Not even close.

I'll bet before he delivered his sermon fr Cantalamessa gargled with ice-water for five minutes so butter wouldn't melt in his mouth.

It amazes me (but does not surprise me) that this braying ass could say such a thing on Good Friday. Does he really not understand why Jews have been persecuted by Christians for two thousand years? That this week has always been the most dangerous week of the year for Jews, who could be pounded into the dirt by christians looking for revenge against the 'Christ Killers'? That Holy Mother-****ing Church only stopped blaming the Jews for the crucifixion within my lifetime? Or are they simply running out of easy, obvious lies and going for the raving monster loony lies?
