"This is not a threat"
What's the point behind making that claim? Seriously, what a bunch of violent retards. "Religion of peace" my ass.

Thank you Ayaan for immediately stepping up and analyzing the danger. It does seem to be a death threat as you clearly point out the similarities with Van Gogh. Bravo.

Of course its a threat! Now Matt and Trey will be hunted by everyone! I think Richard was the only person lampooned on South PArk who didn't get upset.

Their mythical "prophet" was a pedophile. Their religion is at least are ridiculous as xtianity, if not more so. It is as dangerous as xtianity during the middle ages, with better weapons. Everyone needs to ridicule all religions, including islam. Eventually they will see that threats against free speech will not be tolerated.

The website with the threat against these guys should be permanently shut down and the people in charge locked up for inciting people to commit violence.

Hold on ... isn't there a major Washington D.C. landmark, a law court or something, with a graven image of mohammed (intentional lower case) on the outside? Funny how the muslims don't get upset at that!

Well, he might not have been upset, but I don't think he was very impressed:

...and I’m buggered if I like being portrayed as a cartoon character buggering a bald transvestite.

The Islamic ass swipes that put up the website should be arrested and charged with counseling to commit murder. Are we allowing these barbarians to undermine several centuries of enlightenment? There should be a zero tolerance policy towards these Muslim goons.

He wasn't amused, but he didn't scream for revenge, or have a whinge on TV. My point was that Richard reacted as any civilised person should, whereas the muslims don't.

The paedophile Mohammed was also depicted in statue form on the roof of The courthouse of the Appellate Division, First Department of the New York State Supreme Court from 1902-1955, until the Muslim community demanded its removal.

I saw both episodes (it was a two part story) and it's just about rating, and this is the second time they've used the Mohamed picture thing. Smart guys. The story from the episodes, the story itself, is about showing or not showing people on TV, so it's clearly forced in to attract cheap "controversy"... The underlying subject is important, but the way it's attacked is poor and confusing.

About the whole mythical figure thing... I can not understand how would anyone know how this prophet would look like. The argument the extremists make is ridiculous, since they have no way to prove that any image or sound of an arab-looking man is an imitation of the figure they worship. None.

scary.

murdering in the name of a religion isnt specific to islam as we know but lets assume that its more likely that a religiously inspired murder (an assassination of an individual as opposed to a war)is by a muslim, its quite interesting how an actual ideology can allow somebody to do something which to most would be an impossible task under otherwise benign circumstances. i wonder how the minds of such killers compare to the likes of the guy who shot the abortion doctor, those who 'shoot up' a schools (their profiles seem to suggest religious interest). Is islam the first stop for psychopaths because of its general reputation??

Ayan is a brave and courageous woman. I wish her well, and that the taking on of the repulsive extremes of Islam that she speaks of, is a conflict that is won very soon by that which is true and right.

This is the first time I have heard Ayan speak and I am not dissappointed.

I particularly liked her emphasis on the idea that as soon as everyone simply stops this capitulation and says "f**k you!" to the vile non-enitities making these threats, there will be too many people for malcontents to target and eventually the need for her continued protection, and similar ridiculous impositions and self-imposed restricitons of freedom will relent. As Hitchens would have it '...make it clear that we too have unbreakable principles and ideals by which we will stand and for which we will fight.'(paraphrased)

debacles's Avatar Comment 15 by debacles

People need to stop assuming comedy shows take their own opinions seriously just because many of their viewers do. South Park, Jon Stewart, Colbert, Family Guy, etc are meant to be funny. Since everything has a base in reality (including humor), they undoubtedly will all be social critiques...but that's comedy. It's about saying the stuff we normally don't and often can't say. Humor is an essential part of the changing moral zeitgeist, but it is only effective when we deem the jokes more important than the message. That's what freedom of speech is about...saying anything wether the funny weighs out the truth or not.

South Park is comedy...and if you're not laughing, jokes probably on you. And that's fine even if they haven't spelled out their position on every topic you deem of importance. It's a comedy, for Muhammed's sake!

Even Atheists have copped a send up on South Park with 'crap' comming out of their mouths. At the same time they got stuck into the Catholic priests over pedophilia. But I don't recall Atheists demanding the creators heads on a platter let alone anyone else they have offended inciting their deaths - and I'm sure that is quite a long list.

Its just a comedy show regardless of whether you find that sense of humour funny or not and they have had a go at everyone. These muslims really need to grow up and join the human race in the 21st century.

Bravo to Ayaan Hirsi Ali. My goodness wasn’t she quick off the mark?

The way I look at it is boats need be rocked, opinions challenged, ego’s deflated, and sacred bubbles burst. Matt Stone and Trey Parker are doing all this as a public service, and none of us even have to leave home.

Whether I like their material or not is beside the point: At least they are in there pitching, and I’m grateful that in these cowardly times somebody is doing it at all on mainstream television.

As for the imbecile(s) who posted the ‘not a threat’ on their odious little website, I can only hope that a few secular law-enforcers come down hard on their respective arses very soon.

Possibly the bravest person on the planet. A woman born into a Muslim community, in a poorly educated African state, who speaks up about freedom. I admire her greatly.

Ayaan is a great woman in my view. She speaks with the authority of hard won experience and sees the innate hostility of Islam towards women and all non-Muslims. She gets the link between Islamic teaching and the misery and backwardness of Islamic lands such as Somalia, because she is intelligent enough to understand and brave enough to speak out, while knowing the likelihood of being killed.
Her first two books are great and a third is out soon.
We need more like her.

neander - Richard did get upset at South Park, and apparently out of hero worship or misunderstanding, many here did too. It was so stupid. No one got the satire, not even Richard. It revealed the atheists here as able to dish it out but not take the lumps. Very disappointing.

LET'S BE VERY CLEAR: This death threat against Trey and Matt was perpetrated by Younes Abdullah Mohammed. Do a Google search on him.

The website with the threat against these guys should be permanently shut down and the people in charge locked up for inciting people to commit violence.
It was. You can't get to it anymore, and the phone number has been disconnected. If the FBI does not arrest this man and his friends, I will be very surprised. And pissed.
I hope T & M react accordingly - by ramping up the offensiveness and ridicule another 10 notches!
My suggestion would be another episode populated by hundreds of generic looking Arabs named Muhammad (of which there are many in reality). They could even work an Eminem satire into it ("Who's the real Muhammad? Please stand up! Please stand up!")

Pmorskate - Do you see the irony in censoring yourself while talking about this subject? Fuck that.

AHI's last point was extremely important. It's actually so easy to resolve this stupid issue of depicting the pedophile.

If all UK and other newspapers and magazines had printed the Jyllands-Posten cartoons, then there would have been too many for any credible response.

[EDIT: and by the way, the 5-year anniversary of the controversy is coming on 30 September. For any print media owners, I can think of a great way to celebrate...]

The argument the extremists make is ridiculous, since they have no way to prove that any image or sound of an arab-looking man is an imitation of the figure they worship. None.

They don't want to prove it. They don't want to protect the prophet. They want to have the ability to claim power over everyone else's life by asserting that this is one rule you are not allowed to violate because we say so. And if you are against our willingness to kill to enforce our assertion, then you're being antireligious or Islamophobic, crimes equally deserving of death.

It is dictatorship and thought crime, as Hitchens often says.

Bill-O's piece was about the single most content-empty segment I have ever seen.

On another front, I just watched part II of the South Park shows, episode 201, and either the network or the creators bleeped EVERY mention of the word Muhammed, not to mention the expected coverup of the image. That is cowardice and capitulation.

We may be already gone. :-( If we can't get people to stand up against threats of murder, the dissolution of free-speech, blasphemy laws, etc., Islam may succeed. As the Islamic Will Shakespeare once said, "All the world's a Caliphate, and we are merely Kafir"
