My condolences. He must be much missed - and much celebrated, by the family who share such wonderful memories; who loved him and know how well and fully he lived his life.

My sincere condolences Richard! Old ago or not, it always hurts when a loved one goes away. I agree with Abdi. He must have done something right in order to raise such a distinguised person like you are!

Sorry to hear the sad news, I was pleased and honoured to meet you all with your Dad at the Oxford Union when you and Lalla did the event and signing for TGD.

We are typical Yorkshire folk here educated later in life but thanks to your input our lives have been changed forever and are much better for it.

Best wishes for a continued high profile career and sincere condolences.

Beautifully written piece. 95 and still making boats in your 90s? I'd settle for that. Who needs to think he's gone to "a better place"?

Condolences Richard. It sounds like he had a wonderfully fulfilling life and, as he obviously inspired you, so you and his family obviously inspired him. What more clear evidence is required that all we need in life is to be surrounded by people that love us, inspire us and support us in our freely chosen path through life. If you have that, what need is there for an imaginary friend?
