Maybe the organisors selected one speaker for each of the paternal and maternal chromosomes in human cells ;-)

No It's not a coincidence, and it's not nice to see. It's a craven piece of political correctness. Are we to believe that after impartially selecting the 46 best placed speakers, it just so happened that 23 of them were women? I suppose it's possible, but I take leave to doubt it. If there were more suitable females for the job, then the panel should have been mostly women, and likewise for the men.
