Exhibition - Migration
By LALLA WARD - NATIONAL THEATRE
Updated: Wed, 21 Sep 2011 14:47:59 UTC
Lalla Ward returns to the National Theatre with a new exhibition, Migration: again, her primary theme is wildlife, but her medium now includes ceramics as well as the fabric of Stranded .
These animals and plants, and sometimes pattern and object, are migrating from embroidery on silk, velvet and cotton to the glaze of bowls and plates, in pictures, table-runners and mats.
Small, round plates imagine themselves to be microscopes and x-rays, detailing a part of the embroidered animal underneath; plants begin life on linen, entwine themselves around a bowl and through it, to reappear in stitches beyond.
