Are we going to be swamped in positive reviews of Dawkins new book(tour)? I know it's good, that's why I bought a second one to lend to others.

On a side note: Dear Richard, when are you visiting the Netherlands? I know there are not as many people to 'convert' as in the States, but that's also the reason you're not that (in)famous here. Would love to see that change :) And a chance to hear you speak of course (may I recommend the Maastricht University?)

"Atheist extraordinaire"? Well, that's quite a title. I hope my lack of belief will one day rise to the level of extraordinaire, too.

" Never to believe anything without evidence. " I notice that " believe in ", a religious mantra, has short shrift here. I like to see " believe in " expunged from English discourse.

Dawkins: Explain to children never to believe anything without evidence.

Parent : " Ok Jimmy....it's 10pm...time for you to go to bed "

Jimmy : " Hey...Richard Dawkins says you should provide scientific evidence of why it's time for bed "

Parent : " Oh really ? How would you like me to explain Newton's laws of motion to you via this slipper ? "

Jimmy : " Psychology experts say you should reason with your kids "

Parent : " I give up. I'm off to bed. Switch the lights off once you've finished reading Dawkins...."

"He's Baaack" Isn't this title what was said by Freddie Krueger on the trailer for A Nightmare on Elm Street? Atheists must be really scary.

Functional Atheist's Avatar Comment 11 by Functional Atheist

@10 Maybe the marketers for one of the "Elm Street" sequels appropriated the phrase, but its origin in pop culture--with the distinctive two-syllable pronunciation of "baa-aack"--is the movie "Poltergeist".

The blonde little girl in the film said specifically "They're baa-aack," but the pronoun is much less important than the spookiness of the drawn-out second word. The phrase has become sufficiently pervasive that it often has a comic implication, as in the case with this headline.

I've recently wondered if the basis for the character of the "Spooky Preacher Ghost" in the sequel was based on Fred Phelps of the Westboro Baptist Church....

It has already been presented sir, not only by Dawkins, but countless others. You didn't realise coz you were busy on your Buybull thumping, speed dial call with Jeesux, where you eternally wait, but never get a response back. Alas, you continue to wait, because you have labelled your stupidity as faith.

k_docks, please explain of each and every example of evidence for evolution in The Greatest Show on Earth, a book Dawkins wrote on that question, why it doesn't count. Or, failing that, admit you were wrong to act as if you knew Dawkins hadn't presented evidence for evolution because you'd never bothered reading the book in which he does it. And BTW, Just So stories were Lamarckian, so evolutionary biology hasn't been like it since 1858 (which is before Rudyard Kipling was even born, let alone when he wrote the Just So stories).

It's been around for 150 years!! When are you going to learn how to look for evidence in the right places?? - (Scientific literature and the living world and fossil world all around us! - Even school biology or geology text-books will do!!)

Holland: less enlightened then advertised.

First of all: It's the Netherlands. Holland is a province, but was used by foreigners to refer to the Netherlands during the golden age when practically all our commerce and politics took place over there. Archaeic term.

Mark Rutte fundamentalist? You know he's VVD, not SGP right? Or are you one of the approx. 10% of Dutch voters who actually think Geert Wilders is our prime minister? (The shame the shame!) It's too off-topic to discuss elaborately here, you're on any Dutch forums?

Actually, Richard has never produced the 'evidence' (sic) for evolution. But he's spent a lifetime producing the evidence for evolution. None but the blind to evidence could fail to see it.

Behave yerself Sci Fi, start with "The Selfish Gene"? "Evolution Revolution" surely, like our fore-bearers did so many millions of years ago, one must learn to crawl first.

Can I ask k-docks, have ya read "The Magic of Reality" or are you just sounding off out of ignorance? Have you read any of Richard Dawkins' books for that matter?

TBH, I thought the book must be aimed at pre-teens, not teens or young adults, when I saw the first part of the video. Isn't there a risk of appearing to be talking down to older youth?

EDIT: Also, aren't the pre-teens the most appropriate target audience? Slightly older and it's too late.

Addressing people by surname only is for prisoners

About the whole father christmas thing, yes, i think it is becoming boring.

At the very least the story needs some updating.

Young people are not that stupid, i mean a big man with a fat beer belly, is going to squeeze himself down many millions of narrow chimney's in the few hours that he has each year, and not get himself stuck ;)

Then there's the fact that many modern homes that have been built in recent decades, do not have open fireplaces... but have radiators instead

Please do not fall into the same trap as the religons... refusing to update the story of Father Christmas to move with modern times.. just in order to keep the tradition
