Had the "squeezee" been a woman they'd probably be the one getting the lashes.

Lashes, prison and loss of livelihood, hmm. I would say neurotic or paranoid, but anal seems so much more appropriate!

They are up in arms about the cartoon for more than just the unwritten rule of producing his image being forbidden. They also believe that because they "respect" other religions theirs should be respected by others.

Lighten up debaser71 (comment 3), if we can't be 'jovial' about serious issues then we may as well give up now. Would you prefer wailing, gnashing of teeth and rending of cloth?

I thought one had been sacked and they had both been fined - not just for the bottom poking but also for the jumping on top of other players. I'd be very surprised if they end up being lashed...unless they've upset someone important. Of course, both football and Islam have motivated some crazy behaviour.

Why can't they shake hands like they did in the good old days. I mean really, you don't see Clegg congratulating Cameron in this (sniff) interesting way.

I'm surprised they aren't forced to play in Sirwal, Thobe and turbans sporting full beards and have to toss to see who plays towards Mecca.

Either that or she'd be stoned to death at half time for public entertainment.

As Ahmadinny is so fond of telling people, homosexuals don't exist in Iran.

As a result, I can only assume that this act of squeezing is being frowned upon because it is Western and decadent. The kind of thing Wayne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo would do.

Basically, a Western conspiracy to turn Iranian footballers into agents of evil.

Thank some asshole, now to our top story: Why Islam thinks it has the right to tell the world how to parody and satirize its tenets when no other faith is immune to either...

Hmm... to long for a headline....

All chuckling aside, imagine the horror of being punished for this obvious and brief accident! To be lashed and punished in honor of a false prophet such as Mohammed is truly barbaric.

Did I leave out the part about the fact that Mohammed is a false prophet? If so, I apologize and will immediately repeat:

Mohammed is a false prophet!

When I read this kind of stuff, I think about young women in the UK who convert to Islam. I really have to wonder why anyone --- female or male --- would voluntarily become a part of such a broken belief system.

Why would you do that?

I'll stipulate that some bits of the religion or culture that goes with it may have a philosophical appeal to some people. But even so, how could anyone possibly overlook the type of stuff described here, not to mention killing women because they were raped, flying planes into buildings and killing people because you don't like the movies they made? Don't these converts see how sick many of their religious leaders are? I know, I know...they use the excuse preferred by cowards, sheep, and others who've been turning their heads for centuries: "But they don't speak for all of us!" (Answer: unless you're protesting actively, yes, they do. That's why they're your leaders).

Virgin Mary's Avatar Comment 27 by Virgin Mary

It is widely accepted over here that the CIA planned and carried out the 9/11 crashes and not uncle bin Laden.

And the killing of women who have been raped becomes even more absurd when you have the law explained to you! I mean, rape is actually a crime punishable by death, but so is adultery....... The only way a rapist can be convicted is if there were witnesses to the crime (1 if it was a man, up to 4 if they were women) and because they don't believe in DNA or clock testing women have absolutely no way of proving they were raped unless there were witnesses! So because they have no proof, they committed adultery which is punishable by stoning or hanging.

The scandal at Penn State and the swift and ignominious end of the beloved JoPa makes me wonder if a turning point, for the good, has finally happened in our society with regard to reporting sexual abuse of minors. The media, even the sometimes slavish sports media, seem to agree with the decision of the University. Most seem to recognize that merely doing the minimal legal duty can fall well short of proper moral and ethical conduct.

Hopefully, this low tolerance for the abdication of moral duty will be extended to the pedophile scandals in our religious institutions.
