Sounds like the Sydney buses campaign in Australia when they'd rather not have the money.

Maybe it's time someone do a billboard making fun of how hard it is to get atheist billboards up. "This would have been an atheist billboard but it's not allowed. Why?" Let's see them refuse THOSE.

Sounds like the religious are scared to me,
How insecure,
Must their God really be?
To exclude a billboard,
That is not at all that offensive,
Unless,
Of course,
They are on the defensive.

Feel free to add if you are inspired to do so...and please don't be afraid to say what is on yer mind.

maybe you're going about it the wrong way?

here's a suggestion for an ad that won't upset the ad company:

"Don't believe in God? then you are going to burn in hell for all eternity while those of us who do will look down from heaven laughing at your screams"

then maybe in small print the URL

ne interesting to see what happens

Lind ? grrrr

I think that a bumper sticker is asking to get your car vandalised/keyed. I definitely don't think your average believer would resist the temptation.

As for billboards, perhaps if atheist organisations choose messages that are less conflictual - like ugly bible quotes....?

You’ve got to give credit to the religious for one thing; they have built an almost impenetrable social structure to protect their odious and ridiculous belief system from criticism. When companies are scared to be associated in any way with opinions that differ from those of the christian majority, one can see how pervasive and virulent the virus of faith has become. The cheering fact is though that they know they have to censor criticism. As Martin Luther said “Faith must trample under foot all reason, sense, and understanding.” The movement to subject faith to the scrutiny of reason, sense and understanding will not be stopped by the idiocy of this little company.

"I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. She must be quiet." 1 Timothy 2:12

"Happy those who seize your children and smash them against a rock." Psalm 137:9

"Wives should be subordinate to their husbands as to the Lord." Ephesians 5:22

"Slaves, be subject to your masters with all reverence, not only to those who are good and equitable but also to those who are perverse." 1 Peter 2:18

"Thus saith the Lord, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbor, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of the sun. For thou didst it secretly, but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun." II Samuel 12:11,12

"Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye unto them as is good in your eyes, only unto these men do nothing." Genesis 19:8

"But king Solomon loved many strange women together with the daughter of Pharoah, woman of the Moabites, Ammonites, Edomites, Zidonians and Hittites....and he had seven hundred wives, princesses, and three hundred concubines...." Kings 11:1,3 Go on ya boy, ya!

"Their children also shall be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished." Isaiah 13:16

"And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat." Leviticus 26:29

And my personal favourite......oh, er, missus....

"Yet she multiplied her whoredoms, in calling to remembrance the days of her youth, wherein she had played the harlot in the land of Egypt. For she doted upon their paramours, whose flesh is as the flesh of asses, and whose issue is like the issue of horses." Ezekiel 23:19-20

There are reams more of this sort of rot.

They might be afraid of some religious bozo fire bombing their premises. Though looking at the bilboards they do put up they may be dependant on income from religious bozos who in a fit of pique for which they are well known, withdraw all their contracts.

Its an age old game, Michelangelo, even Leonardo who was slandered by them continued to paint for the paymaster even though his famous last supper has enough heresies to choke the Poop (If he had the nounce to see them).

You can see why church elders did not want the unwashed masses getting their hands on a copy of the "Good Book", or the ability to read.

And now we have it freely available on the intertubz - the fundies must be kicking themselves, having to defend such barbaric, archaic drivel.

Mate, ya know I've just had a lengthy conversation with my partner on the very some subject. Religions unwashed masses, the elders like it when they can keep them all in the "Mushroom Club"....in the dark and fed on shite. The third world springs to mind.

There is no hiding place for the insidiousness of religion in these modern times of tinternet availability.

So ya didn't bother reading the whole article and decided to just go on the apologetics defensive? Figures.

The e-mail from LIND.......

The content of the proposed displays was supposed to have been approved beforehand by senior management at Lind, but unfortunately was not. When the content of your proposed displays did recently come to the attention of senior management, it was felt that a legal opinion was needed as to whether the content of the proposed displays might constitute a violation of the terms and conditions of Lind’s lease agreements for the billboard structures at which the posters would be displayed. Legal counsel determined that such displays could constitute a violation of such lease terms and conditions. Moreover, the inflammatory nature of the proposed displays would no doubt be considered offensive to much of the community and would be harmful to Lind’s community reputation and goodwill. Lind has always and will continue to reserve the right not to publish advertisements which, in its sole opinion, are obscene, unnecessarily offensive and/or not in the best interests of the community at large. We regret any inconvenience this might have caused your organization and Lind will bear the costs it has already incurred in the production of the displays without charge.

Seems straight forward to me....discrimination.

I suggest that prior to one of these campaigns it might be worth taking note of religious billboards - who produced the poster and who hosts the site it is stuck up on. It would strike me as discriminatory if a company were to host one kind of message but not another.

Even without the e-mail you can't see any 'big deal'?

So had it been any customer wasting all that time and effort going forward with an advertising campaign, only to be told at the 11th hour that the advertising company that had undertaken the work were pulling the plug, no' big deal'.....is that what you call normal business practice in your neck of the woods is it? To fuck people about is normal Christian behaviour is it?(well it is, but that's another story).
