“It’s a breakthrough,” said Gerald Joyce "

An understatement on this continuing and staggering accomplishment. Polymerase seems to be the key here. Not the first time a polymerase was " drafted " into a new function, though the PCR polymerase was not mutated.

Everything evolves. I even heard that the Catholic church has changed parts of it's mass ritual. Responses have changed as well as things the priest says. No big deal? Or very big deal??????

LOL. Now all they have to do is pick up some clay and animate it. I'm sure a couple of lightning bolts will do it.

"Intelligent Design at work" WOW. You can't be serious. Did you read the article? Because it seems to use the word "evolution" a lot. Modern day Stupid design is a evangelical movement trying to do away with evolution and it's pesky FACTS. If you wan't to say perhaps some magical space man got bored and created the life that is now evolving, I can't stop you. But don't pretend as though anything in this article supports the ridiculous and fundamentalist view of Christianity that seeks to push I D into our schools and poison the minds of our children. With all due respect sir, if there is a god then he/she/it is either sadistic, or a bumbling idiot.

From what we know about evolution we can say with some authority that DNA was not the first form of information carrying biology. DNA evolved from less complicated and probably very different froms of biochemical arrangements, some of these would have led to the evolution of distant life forms which did not survive due to, I would guess, their limited ability to diversify.

DNA is capable of great diversity, and that genetic dversity is directly proportional to the ability of life to endure change, but DNA evolved too, though from what we do not know.

Are the polymers used in this remarkablle work not evident in nature, or not capable of being evident in nature? ie, could they have existed once only to be lost due to natural selection, or is their existence dependant on creation outside of the laws of physics... I doubt it.
