I was at university in Aberystwyth many years ago (please don't ask how many). It was a pretty dreary, grey place (grey buildings, grey shingle, grey sea, grey sky, grey rain) although the student population livened it up quite a bit. I don't remember it as being particularly religious, aside from representatives of the Christian Union trying to convert me and failing, and - ah yes - all the pubs being shut on Sundays, which I'm afraid most students then (and probably now) would consider more of a tragedy than a ban on the Life of Brian.
