The 3 listener comments about this story (today on NPR) ended with a doozy -- the longest one, an insipid "you should embrace Je-zus" sales pitch that began along the lines of "The reason that boy is terrified of no longer existing is that he is feeling the pain of rejecting a God who is real . . . ."
NPR's broadcast of that comment, in the interests of "balance," outweighed any points that NPR scored with me by running the story in the first place. Of course, NPR assigned its "religion correspondent" to report the story, and it was her question ("Are you afraid of dying?") that put most of the little campers in a funk to conclude the story.
