AHEM. He was the first to publish, and prior to the End of Faith, Richard's idea for an atheistic book was rejected by his publisher. Basically, Sam made the trade respectable and started the trend.
His academic accomplishments may still be few, given his young age and personal history, nevertheless his book is the work of sheer genius and his ideas always extremely original. He is a master debater, too.
I completely disagree with his stance on Eastern philosophy, but that's beyond the point.
