"I was just trying to say that these people spend way too much time not minding their own business, and that the bible quoting is post hoc (hope I'm using the right term) justification for some twisted emotional reaction to other people's preferences."

The emotional reaction you speak of, I would submit, is trivial and irrelevant without the amplifier of religious condemnation. It's amazing where some intelligence, contemplation, and minimised indoctrination will take you, and has taken many of us.

What I'm trying to say is that we are at a point now where we can reason as best as possible with the religious, instead of being burned at the stake, and we can get them to admit that the two men sleeping together in the next house bothers them on no grounds at all except religious grounds.

Which is fine by us, because then we'll just go to work on that.

And while homosexuality offends them in their and God's deepest integrity, the majority surely get by through cognitive dissonance- forgetting that homosexuals exist, forgetting to reason why God would create homosexuals and allow his flock to worry in such discomfort about them at night... and such dissonance need not be disrupted because a homosexual never does them any harm in their day-to-day lives.

You may have met religious people who mind other people's sexuality. But they still get on with it. Their lives that is. They must.

They can't lose too many nights' sleep before they've got to do something about it. Forget homosexuality and homosexuals, or forget God.

Surely that's the case?
