Of course ultimately people are still dangerous underneath - but religion allows people to legitimately channel views which are contrary to what is actually good and sensible. Religion turns good people bad, being the argument. And true that is. Look at the suicide bombers from the UK. A care worker. A doctor. Crazy ideas make people do crazy things. And religion is a goldmine for crazy.
Heck I'll even expand it to include radical political and philosophical ideas. Look at marxism, it turned an Argentinian medical student into the most renowned armed fighter of the 20th century. Completely contradictory for a doctor to pick up arms in my humble opinion.
