I thought "Capitalism" was the late Medieval invention where by many people (say 100) shared the risk of outfitting a merchant ship for a high risk but potentially profitable voyage (say only 60% chance of returning, but 100% profit if successfull) when none of the investors could afford to take the whole risk alone. Hence, it was the driving force of large capital projects from then on. The greedy can use/abuse it, but Capitalist projects do not require the investors to be greedy.
