Agreed; the contributions on that comments thread are depressingly sub-standard. One of the reasons I have almost completely abandoned Cif; with few exceptions it has become an unthinking tub-thumping pit.
Grayling makes a few good points and let's remember that this is an op-ed not a philosophical essay so he doesn't have room to develop the argument and justification. I hope he does go on to do just that in another forum.
