I'm not so sure that banishing creationism from the classroom is the answer. Why can't creationism be introduced to contrast it with genuine science? For that matter, I would like my child to be taught why astrology, demon-possession, etc. are pseudoscientific.
None of these should be taught as "alternative theories," of course. But introducing such topics might help students better understand what science is (and what it isn't).
