The ability to cook food (and indeed any kind of short term planning and tool use) is almost certainly a *product* of our developments in intelligence. It was not a cause or aim of evolution, and certainly not the other way round.
That aside, this is also a rare case of clear BBC misreporting! Eating meat is something we all do every day. Could it be possible to make a programme more offensive to vegitarians? ;)
