So a sexual offence committed against someone over 18 is not a crime in Church "law"?

But they still don't get it, do they? We really don't care what "church law" says - outside the "tinpot fiefdom" (nice phrase, Richard!) of the Vatican the law of the land prevails, and the church has no more jurisdication over crimes than any other private organization or employer. Official Vatican advice should always have been "call the police!".
