In Robert Forwards novel Rocheworld he has people travelling to Barnard's Star using a sail. Lasers on or near Mercury provide the propulsion for the outward flight as solar power alone would not be enough. Once at Barnard's star the sail can be used to travel around the system in the same way as the above space yacht.
