Ah, another convenience for surfing on the net. Of course, a cynic might note that it adds one more way to connect a single identifier (your email address) with every gravatar-using site you visit, and when, and what you read, without even needing to leave a cookie on the user's machine.
The data miners are insatiable, and they have an endless supply of conveniences on offer, all free!
