Has anyone ever turned down a Templeton award, as in "No, thankyou"? An "Awardee" such as Paul Davies - was he the amoral, or apolitical, type who just takes the money and runs? Then again, it's interesting that the most prestigious award in the whole universe (The Nobel Prize) was not instigated by a university, nor even by the Vatican State, but by a man who marketed explosive materials. Was Samuel Beckett the only one who said no to it? "Absurd" he grumbled, did he not? - but I think they shoved it down his jumper, anyway.
