Very nice tribute to an exraordinary man, Richard. I really hadn't heard of Dr. Williams until I read Why We Get Sick: The New Science of Darwinian Medicine co-authored with Randoph Nesse a few years back. That prompted me to read Pleiotropy, Natural Selection, and the Evolution of Senescence , which is a classic paper that I may have missed if I hadn't been interested in Darwinian medicine. Nesse also wrote a nice tribute to George C. Williams on his blog a few weeks ago. He influenced many in his field and I'm sure they'll miss him.
