It's Sodium Chlorite, not hypochlorite, so it's not household bleach (Chlorox)

If you mix sodium hypochlorite with acid you get chlorine gas.

Sodium chlorite and acid produces chlorine dioxide

It's still dangerous but it's not the same thing. Once the chlorine dioxide has been released you are left with salt water. (the process is now being widely used in swimming pools)
