What is really going on is a conflict between the rights of individuals, regardless of their beliefs, and demands to honour the broken-telephoned rules of an entity who probably never existed. Since the choice is obvious when things are put this clearly, Odone has to muddy the waters in her description, in order to pretend that real equality under the law for all is actually the indulgence of selfish whims. If anything is selfish, it's the insistence of Odone and others that their ideas do get to trump that equality.
