And by contrast, Britain has an official religion and religious education, and yet is largely secular with the lowest church attendance and the most flourishing atheist-advocacy movements (NSS, BHA).
The United States is founded on individual liberties and rejection of monarchy, and is highly unequal. Scandinavian countries are monarchies but the most egalitarian.
Just goes to show that all the good Enlightened intentions and official declarations can grossly backfire.
