I was, of course, talking about the mean (and you're obviously right to point out that a 1:1 sex ratio is a necessary factor for the means of the respective sexes to be equal) but I wasn't attempting to draw any conclusions from the statistic directly.
I was merely saying that in the context of there necessarily being an equal amount of (heterosexual) sex being had by both men and women, the fact that men want it so disproportionately more puts women in a position of power - at least when people are free to make their own decisions about such matters.
I was going to attempt to work in the phrase "means of reproduction" but I am devastated that a Google search has revealed I've been beaten to the pun!
