Oh, I'm sure that they did consider these issues, even if only to purposefully flout them with glee.
Much to the chagrin of Jefferson's ghost, the once Republic of the United States of America has become both the Theocracy of the USA, and the benighted laughing-stock of the enlightened nations.
It will go down the gurgler more rapidly than did the Roman Empire, sliding down the very slippery slope of superstition:- liberally lubricated with elite-enforced indoctrination & isolation via schools and the goggle-box.
