For a couple of years (2008, 2009) the UK university department where I lead the postgraduate courses was unable to use its usual venue (a civic theatre) for its graduation ceremony, and the university was offered the use of the local cathedral.

When my daughter graduated high school, the only local venue large enough to accommodate the crowd was the local mega-church (we refer to it as the "Cretin Road Bible Beater Baptist Church"). I must say they did a good job secularizing the place; all the statues and crucifixes were draped pretty tastefully, and not mention of them was made. By the time my son graduated four years later, the new county fairgrounds were completed, and the graduation was held in the huge enclosure also used for cattle shows. It was... memorable, yet also preferable. :-)
