If that's not the reason, it's close.
If asked how we know we're right, in the same way that we innately know right from wrong we know the voice of our shepherd. If it is pointed out that others claim to know the same voice and yet believe differently, we don't know what god is planning for them, and if finally it is pointed out to us that some differences are irreconcilable, may god go with you.
What we must not do, ever, is let any belief fall to the overwhelming evidence against it. Remember, you're not smart enough, you need god, others will try to trick you, the devil will deceive.
