Curses, man! Now I'm beginning to doubt it myself and I need to look it up. I don't come to websites like this expecting to have to do work to provide evidence to defend my opinions, but simply to be believed on my assertions and recollections, you know.

My dead-tree version of Decline & Fall would take too long to find or search through, so I've lazily gone to wikiquotes which says it's disputed, and though it's often attributed to Seneca, it can't be found in any of his works.

I bet you knew that already ;-)
