I think this is a "things are really not going well at the moment, and in case I should die in the near future, know this"-message.
Yes, it is very sad to read and one does get a sense of the emotions that many of us will be feeling when we first get the news of his passing.
It will be a thourougly discouraging day for atheists when Hitchens passes away.
