I agree. It reads like a valediction, and that last paragraph seems to written in anticipation of an audience more used to his absence. It's a pre-emptive rallying cry from the grave that must have been bitterly rueful to type. He's a brave, wonderful individual.

I agree with you about the tone.

I read this piece with a deep sadness. To think that such a bright light, a light that burns so fiercely and that illuminates so much, will dim and could be extinguished so soon is painful.
