It's clearly a desperate attempt to try and 'modernize' Christianity in a way that makes for yet more scientific minds entering private faith-based schools to retain their 'security blanket' while embracing the notion of a more complicated God, one very similar to the sort that we all know Richard wrote about in the God Delusion . . . and we all know what complications that creates.

What's troubling is that it still creates that sense of 'legitimacy' in debates, or in arguments for those of the faith that are having trouble in reconciling what a group of goat-herding misogynists wrote, largely plagerizing myths and philosophies about a man-god hippie and trying to reconcile them with, as Richard put it more or less about the OT god, one of the most unpleasant characters in all of fiction.
