Publishing is a conservative (and dying) business: end of story. Publishers are no better at picking good books than any other literate person. The history of literature is filled with examples of great writers and their works which never found a publisher, or were published to great success after much rejection, etc.... perhaps the NEXT publisher tried would have went for it. Only God knows.
