← I think we've been insulted by American book publishers

It all boils down the statistics that sales/marketing generates. Like most creative businesses these days, the bean counters run the show. If the bean counters say that books/product relating to imaginary monsters is selling well, that's what they will publish. If they find that purple book covers sell better than green and Italy is more saleable than German themes, you'll end up with monsters of Venice with a purple cover. When it fails they scratch their heads.

Marketing/sales reports need debunking. Do this book/study and you'll find a really good niche. There is so much wrong with this data and the way it's misused, Ugh, get rid of the marketing and product managers of the world and ideas will flourish once again.
