Sean Faircloth:
Attack of the Theocrats!
I an glad to live to find as a science, the great changes that have taken place. Thrity-five years ago as an undergraduate taking Primatology, when plate tectonics where just becoming respectable, only homo sapiens had emotions. To say different, although the younger professors told two stories, could mean being looked at as a hippie.
Nim was another piece of the puzzle that allowed a change in the way we looked at animals. He was an important step to the public popularity of Jane Goodall's work. Animals can have emotions, think, and feel pain. This has had major changes in most of the educated world. The best dog training today is postive conditioning as TV shows like Dog Whisperer and It's me or the Dog are teaching.
This discussion has been interesting, it is nice to have primates who share ideas about all things having as good a time as possible.
