Only in America where at least 40% of the population believe that their god created human beings within the last 10,000 years, can slick, grotesque, holier than thou, glad-handing, snake-oil selling carnival barkers of the Perry, Palin, Bachmann, Huckabee ilk gain such prominence in politics.
Anywhere else in the developed world parading ones religiosity or making religious references would mean instant political suicide. In the US it's a requisite for a viable candidacy. The founding fathers, especially Jefferson, are spinning in their graves.
