I don't think I am sounding like Sam. Human values should be more than about some scientific measure of suffering, or even goodness. Questions about what we "ought" to do still remain, as far as I can see. For example, both a socialist (like me) and a libertarian will agree that people suffer due to poverty, and that suffering is bad, but we will have utterly different ideas of what we ought to do about it.
