Neil deGrasse Tyson has argued Republicans are the more pro-science of the 2 major US parties because they throw more money at it. Only where it suits though. Evolution, anthropogenic climate change, clean energy, stem cell research - these are all areas that need funding in ways Republicans don't even begin to recognise. I think Tyson's analysis is based on a comparison of overall funding rather than worrying about the little details. I prefer to judge a party's scientific credentials the way Krugman does.
Right now we know the Democrat candidate for the presidency will be Barrack Obama, so on that front we've not all that much reason to be scientifically worried.
