Lessons from history

Blair said that while in office he feared being exposed as a "nutter" if he had talked about his religious views.

Always better to be thought a nutter than to provide a finely worked example. Having aspiring politicians declaring their stupidity upfront is actually an asset. It means you can vote against them. Blair was canny enough to conceal the greater part of his stupid ideas until he left office. That's not to say his decisions weren't influenced by them (they certainly were)

In an interview with Michael Parkinson broadcast on ITV1 on 4 March 2006, Blair referred to the role of his Christian faith in his decision to go to war in Iraq, stating that he had prayed about the issue, and saying that God would judge him for his decision: "I think if you have faith about these things, you realise that judgement is made by other people … and if you believe in God, it's made by God as well."

His first term was by default after John Smith died, but had we been aware of his lapses into unreality he may not have made a second term in office. Always in the intellectual shadow of his wife he converted from anglicanism to catholicism (her religion) and immediately on leaving office began campaigns to promote faith.

Blair outlined its aim that "idealism becomes the new realism", and that one of its goals was to "counter extremism in all six leading religions".

Yeah right! and warmongering on religious premises is the moderate face of religion isn't it? Or going to war after talking to an imaginary friend is normal? Suppose I kick the crap out of somebody in the street and say to the judge, "I spoke to my imaginary friend who told me I must do it for the benefit of others". Should I expect to be understood and be acquited?

American Atheists you have an uphill struggle but you need to keep mentally aberrant individuals out of government.
