I find it both highly amusing and desperately sad that an organisation which counts not a single married person in an official role within its ranks feels it can dictate who can and can't get married.
Given that the Government is elected by the people, and is thus their voice, it would seem they are precisely the right organisation to decide on marriage laws. Every time the Catholic Church makes a statement of this kind, they merely show how increasingly out of touch with the modern world they are.
