@Alex_Redsky: I'm not missing the point. There is not one point being made; there are several. Mine is that power hates a vacuum. Whenever there is a vacuum, some kind of power (s) will fill it. If the US was not the world leader today, rest assured some other country or state-like entity would have taken its place. Whether it's a bi-polar or multi-polar power is a separate point, the point that you make. As we live in bi-polar times, and this was my point, my sense is that an American-led world is way better than the prevailing alternatives: China and Russia. In the future, and this was your point, we may well be better off in a multi-polar world.
