Religion is chosen, sexual orientation is not. The problem with religious labelling is that it seeks to force children into choosing a particular religion. People do not choose their sexual orientation any more than they choose their hair colour or their chirality or their height.
Gay-friendly organisations can be vital in helping to create a safe, tolerant space for vulnerable gay children and teenagers in schools. Especially where the wider culture might be less than tolerant or safe.
