Most people accept that the laws of a country must be respected when travelling or residing in that country. We certainly deal contemptuously with foreign nationals who might break our laws and plead for special treatment because they are aliens. We all know Saudi Arabia is a basket case and any sane person should avoid the company of lunatics in the same way as a pacifist should avoid dark alleys in dodgy neighbourhoods. I wonder if this pilgrim's family will question their beliefs in the light of the inhuman treatment meted out to him? How many muslims around the world will be revolted by this action and renounce the idiotic barbarism of islam? Not many I would guess, and some of them may still go on Hadj and themselves become a victim of this ludicrous cult. Do they deserve sympathy from their liberal brethren? Not at all in my opinion, nevertheless they will still receive it, because if stupidity is justification for a death warrant then an awful lot of non-muslims, christians, republicans, conservatives and fans of Southampton Football club are guilty of that.
